It irritates me no end when college-going girls and even those in their late 20s address me as aunty. I guess it is a norm to address married folks and those with kids as aunties and uncles. IN a year or two, I hope I will learn to accept that.
well, well, I had to hear myself being called aunty while in college,..!still hear it. well, AM -even went to the extend of calling me g'mum. so what.. who cares.. so long as u r not treated badly! Rosh , if it irritates u come live here (small kids) call us Thomas, sarah or with MR. or Ms.in front! Be nice to all. If they respect You, don't expect more than that. tk cr ust
I am okay with lil kids calling me with a Ms/Mrs prefix or even my name :) What rankles is 20-something mothers calling me aunty. Akka is fine enough. I guess mentally we are all still in college...
Next time just let them know they can call you akka. When I came here I was 23 and I didn't know what to call some of the Indians I met. I didn't want to call them "anuty" and make them feel old. When I asked them they asked me to call them by name. Some of these people have kids about 5 years younger than me and still didn't want to be called aunty. I completely understand how you feel Roshin.
I mean to, maha. Sometimes the occasion is just not right... Even some of v's colleagues wives/acquaintances in church i meet for the first/2nd time decide to call me chechi, i tell them I prefer to be called by name. Some people here have no qualms abt asking the year of birth!

Haha! Exalted to the status of aunts and uncles! Don't worry we are quite young. That's what I believe from my post today.

yeah it is good to live here for that reason. There is no aunty & uncle - just Maha. Not even Mr. and Mrs. I am okay with that.

Oh my! Isn't there an untold rule about not asking a woman's age. Whatever happened to chivalry!!
